Rules and Regulations

Students must make a genuine effort to speak Irish at all times in order to improve their fluency. Where a student makes little or no attempt to speak Irish, parents will be contacted with a view to improving their child's effort. The college authorities reserve the right to request that a student is removed from the course should they show blatant and persistent disregard for this rule.
By accepting the rules and regulations it is assumed that you agree to our medical procedure policy. In the event of your child having a minor ailment during their stay it may be necessary to offer them an over the counter remedy from the Chemist. Some examples of over the counter remedies would be strepsils, calpol, paracetemol, nurofen, motillium, lomitil and creams for burns or insect bites. Please inform us of any medication your child may be allergic to. Please inform us of any medical conditions or ailments your child may have prior to commencement of the course by way of writing. Please inform us in writing should you not wish that we offer your child any over the counter remedies in the event of any minor ailments arising.
Rialacha Eile
In the interest of safety, students will be dismissed from the course for any of the following reasons:
- Possession or consumption of alcohol or non-prescribed drugs (including solvent abuse or smoking)
- Absence from the college/house/classes/activities without prior permission of the headmaster.
- Verbal or physical intimidation/persistent misbehaviour or behaviour which could cause problems, psychological or otherwise, to themselves or fellow students.
- Absence from the guest house after 10.30pm
- Unauthorised travel or leaving the district.
- Persistent failure to comply with instructions given by the Headmaster or members of staff.

What to Bring
Students should bring an adequate supply of warm, protective leisure-type clothing for their visit, including waterproof clothing to include a light waterproof jacket with reflective material (or reflective armband)
Students should always have a raincoat on their person in the event of a sudden downpour. Toiletries should include toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant (roll-on only), hairbrush, soaps and towels. Students should only use their own personal towel at all times. There is an absolute ban on aerosol canisters. They can be misused and can be highly dangerous.
Do not forget: glasses, medicine, tablets, money or that very special item
Do not bring: items of monetary or sentimental value: jewellery, large sums of money, which would cause upset if lost, stolen, or mislaid.
Bring items for special events like sports, theme night, stage events and such should be packed i.e. Irish dancing shoes, musical instruments, sports clothes, fancy dress and swim wear/beach towels.
Bring a hard-backed notepad and pen to class each day.
You may also find a pocket Irish/English dictionary quite useful.
Health Care
An experienced local nurse is employed by the college to provide for the general healthcare of the students. This daily service is available free of charge to all students. A doctor is always available for more serious illness/accidents. Parents/Guardian are responsible for all medical fees and related expenses other than visiting the nurse The nearest hospital is just five miles from the college. Parents are asked to inform the college, in writing, of any health conditions, uncommon eating habits, recent operations, learning difficulties, allergies, personal or social problems your child may suffer. Smoking is prohibited on all courses.
Insurance
Coláiste na Rosann carries the same level and type of indemnity insurance as all Primary and Post-Primary schools in the country.
Supervision and Safety
The management of Coláiste na Rosann have many years of experience in organising, planning and conducting quality course in Irish Language and Activity. We take great pride in our excellent reputation and record in this regard. Coláiste na Rosann seeks and retains only the best qualified and most experienced members to its staff, and are all Garda Vetted. We carry the same level and type of indemnity insurance as all Primary and Secondary Schools in the country. All activities are carefully supervised. An experienced nurse tends to the students health and welfare during the course. This service is provided free of charge to all students. A local doctor service is on call at all times. All medical costs are borne by the student.
We monitor the students closely throughout the duration of the course. All students must attend a briefing session on arrival. This is an important talk and students are asked to pay full attention at this time. Students are made aware of all local dangers, designated areas, rules and regulations and safety aspects of the course. Generally very few problems arise and therefore we ask you not to anticipate any. There are plenty of qualified and experienced teachers and assistant teachers in charge during all organised activities and help and supervision is readily to hand. We ask for the full cooperation of each and every student participating on our programmes. The rules and regulations cannot and should not be broken. In the event of serious breaches, Coláiste na Rosann reserves the right to dismiss any person from the course who does not comply with the rules and regulations governing the safe conduct of a course. |
