The College

Coláiste na Rosann is registered and approved as a Summer College with the Dept. of Education and Science and CONCOS (Comhdháil na gColáistí Samhraidh). All guesthouses are approved by Roinn na Gaeltachta. In 2010 we celebrate 20 successful years in conducting quality Irish Language and Activity courses under the stewardship of our Director An t-Uasal Seosamh Ó Duibheannaigh, B.A. H.Dip in Ed.

History

Coláiste na Rosann is a purpose built Irish language college operating successfully since 1962. Coláiste na Rosann is affiliated to CONCOS, the umbrella organisation for Irish Summer Colleges and is recognised by the Department of Education and the Department of Arts, Culture and Gaeltacht. We cater for primary schools, post-primary schools, universities, adult and specialised groups. Please feel free to contact us with your request.

Changes

This year Coláiste na Rosann has implemented huge changes to its courses. Our aim is to bring Irish back into the modern world. We aim to teach students not only Irish but to give every student two new skills prior to leaving the College. This year we are implementing a multi-media element into our courses. At the end of every course, our students will leave us having made themselves a short film or television / radio programme. This module will be taught with the help of professionals from the world of Irish media. We have also introduced a water sports module, where every student will be afforded the opportunity to learn one new water sport (Surfing, Kayaking, Snorkelling or Swimming). We have invested in computers, cameras and interactive white boards also this year to improve the learning experience.

Donegal and Irish

The Donegal Gaeltacht region is the largest of the seven Gaeltacht regions in Ireland. Coláiste na Rosann is centrally situated in the middle of this famous Gaeltacht region, which is arguably the richest and purest of them all. This is indeed a very beautiful and scenic rural area with many mountain views and Atlantic seascapes to enjoy all around.

To truly understand the essence of Irish culture a visit to the Irish speaking Gaeltacht of West Donegal is vital. Surrounded by mountains and sea, the village of Anagaire, in the heart of the Rosses, constitutes part of the largest and arguably the purest Gaeltacht region in the country. Gaeilge - our native tongue and one of the oldest surviving European languages is the predominant language of the people of the area.

The Future

We are now in the process of building a state of the art modern building for our students from 2010 onwards. Most Irish Colleges are housed in old dilapidated buildings which lack motivation and inspiration. Our new building will house a modern computer suite and many more modern surprises...
